The condenser fan motor spins the outdoor fan that pulls air across the condenser coil, allowing your system to reject the heat it removed from your home. It runs whenever the compressor runs. When this motor fails, the outdoor unit will often hum without the fan turning, the blade may spin slowly or stop, and the system loses its ability to shed heat — leading to warm air from the registers, the unit tripping on a high-pressure or overload fault, a tripped breaker, or a hot electrical/burning smell near the condenser. This is a permanent split-capacitor (PSC) condenser fan motor matched to your Carrier unit's horsepower, RPM, and rotation. It operates on 208/230VAC and requires a correctly sized run capacitor (MFD rating per the unit's data plate). Bearing type, shaft diameter, mounting, and rotation direction all must match the original for proper airflow.
