AC Won't Start — Outdoor Unit Hums

Goodman condensers are notorious for capacitor failures in hot climates. The dual run capacitor (typically 45/5 MFD or 40/5 MFD 440V) degrades from heat exposure in the condenser compartment. Furnace Short-Cycles (Lights, Runs 30 Seconds, Shuts Off)

Goodman furnaces (GMVC96, GMSS, GCSS series) use a single-rod flame sensor that accumulates carbon faster than most brands due to the sensor position in the burner flame. When dirty, the sensor can't detect the flame, and the control board shuts down the gas valve after 3-7 seconds. Clean with fine-grit sandpaper. Blinking LED on Control Board

Goodman/Amana furnaces use the PCBBF112S and PCBBF132S control boards with a diagnostic LED. The most common codes: 2 flashes = pressure switch open (check inducer motor, drain trap, and vent blockage), 3 flashes = pressure switch stuck closed, 4 flashes = high-limit open (dirty filter or blocked return air), 6 flashes = rollout switch open (serious — check heat exchanger). Goodman vs Amana: Are Parts the Same?

Yes — Goodman and Amana are the same manufacturer (Goodman Manufacturing, now part of Daikin). They share identical parts, control boards, and engineering. A PCBBF112S board from a Goodman GMVC96 is the same board used in the equivalent Amana AMVC96.
