The condenser fan motor drives the outdoor fan blade that pulls air across the condenser coil, rejecting the heat your system pulls out of the home. Most applications use a 1/2 inch shaft with reversible rotation and a sealed ball or sleeve bearing rated for the high ambient temperatures inside a condensing unit. An OEM Carrier motor matches the original horsepower, RPM, rotation, and capacitor micro-farad spec exactly. Generic replacements often spin at a different RPM or use a lighter bearing class; an under-rated motor overheats, draws excess amps, starves the coil of airflow, and can shorten compressor life.
