The air pressure switch is a safety device that confirms the inducer/draft motor is actually moving combustion gases before the furnace allows the igniter and gas valve to fire. It senses negative pressure (vacuum) in the vent to prove proper venting. When it fails or its hose clogs, the furnace will run the inducer but never light — locking out with the burners cold — because the control board never receives the 'proof of draft' signal.
