The run capacitor stores and releases electrical energy to keep your Carrier unit's motor(s) spinning efficiently — providing the constant phase-shifted current the compressor and/or condenser fan motor need to run smoothly. It is one of the highest-failure components in HVAC because it sits in a hot outdoor cabinet and degrades over time. Generic capacitors often carry ±10–15% tolerances and lower-grade dielectric film; a cap reading even 10% low starves the windings, forcing the compressor to draw higher amps, run hot, and lose years of service life.
