The condenser fan motor turns the outdoor fan blade that pulls air across the condenser coil, releasing the heat your system removes from the house. When this motor starts to fail the symptoms are hard to miss: a loud hum or buzz from the outdoor unit while the blade barely spins or sits dead still, warm air from the registers on a hot day, frequent short-cycling, or a tripped breaker. Because the coil can no longer reject heat, the compressor runs hot and eventually shuts down on its internal overload, and a compressor that keeps overheating costs far more to replace than this motor.
