The hot surface igniter is the ignition source for your Carrier PG9MAA gas furnace. On each call for heat, the control board sends 120V to the igniter, which glows white-hot (near 2,000°F) to light the burner gas. As it wears out you will notice the furnace clicking and trying to start but blowing cold air, long delays before the burners light, or short-cycling.
