The hot surface igniter lights the burners on your Carrier PG9MAA packaged gas furnace. On every call for heat the control board sends 120V to the igniter, heating it to about 2,000°F so it ignites the gas the instant the valve opens. Because it reaches that temperature on every single cycle, it's the most common wear item in the ignition sequence.
