The flame sensor (flame-rectification rod) is the slender metal rod that sits directly in the burner flame of your Carrier PG96 gas furnace. Once the hot surface igniter lights the burners, the control board sends a small microamp current through the flame, and this rod is what 'proves' the burners are actually burning.
