The pressure switch is a combustion safety device that proves the draft inducer is actually moving exhaust gases through the heat exchanger before the control board is allowed to ignite the burners. It senses the negative pressure created by the inducer motor; only when that vacuum is present do its contacts close and give the board a "safe to fire" signal. When the switch fails, or its sensing hose or port clogs with condensate or debris, the furnace will not light: you hear the inducer spin up and then the cycle stall, an error code flashes (often a pressure-switch-stuck-open fault), the blower may run cold, and you get no heat — or, with intermittent contacts, repeated short-cycling. This is a genuine Carrier negative-pressure switch matched to the PG95XAT60100CAAA. Pressure switches are calibrated to a specific set point measured in inches of water column ("WC) for this furnace's tonnage and venting, with a normally-open contact set that closes on a rise in vacuum. The factory part carries the correct WC trip point, port count, and hose-barb orientation for this cabinet.
