The pressure switch on this furnace is a combustion safety control that proves the draft inducer is pulling exhaust through the heat exchanger before the board will allow the burners to ignite. It reads the negative pressure (vacuum) the inducer creates; only when that vacuum is present do its contacts close and signal the board to fire. If the switch fails, or its sensing hose or pressure port plugs with condensate or lint, the furnace simply won't light: the inducer spins up, the cycle stalls, a pressure-switch error code flashes, and you get no heat. Marginal or intermittent contacts instead cause short-cycling, where the furnace lights briefly and then drops out. This is a genuine Carrier negative-pressure switch matched to the PG95XAT60080CBAA. Each switch is calibrated to a specific trip point in inches of water column ("WC) suited to this model's input rating and venting, with normally-open contacts that close on rising vacuum.
