The flame sensor is the small ceramic-and-metal rod mounted in the path of the burner flame on your Carrier PG95XAT36060AAAA. It doesn't make heat — it confirms it. Once the burners light, the flame conducts a tiny microamp current through the rod to ground (flame rectification), telling the control board a real flame is present.
