The gas valve regulates the flow of natural gas into the burners and is a primary safety component of this Carrier furnace. On a call for heat, the control board energizes the valve's 24V solenoids to open it, and a built-in regulator holds manifold pressure at the rated setpoint (typically around 3.5" W.C. on natural gas). As a two-stage furnace, this model uses a two-stage valve that delivers a lower first-stage rate for mild weather and a higher second-stage rate when demand climbs. When the valve fails, you'll see the igniter glow and the inducer run but no flame followed by a hard lockout, weak or noisy burner flames, delayed ignition with a 'whump' on light-off, or heat stuck on low stage only. This OEM valve includes both first- and second-stage solenoid coils, the integrated pressure regulator, and the manifold and inlet pressure taps, matched to this furnace's redundant safety shutoff requirement. Inlet rating is standard residential natural gas; an LP conversion kit is required for propane. OEM matters on a gas valve more than almost any other part.
