This pressure switch is the draft-proving safety on your Carrier furnace. The inducer motor must pull a measurable vacuum through the heat exchanger and vent, and this switch has to sense and confirm that vacuum before the control board energizes the gas valve. If the switch is faulty or its rubber sensing tube is plugged with soot or condensate, ignition is blocked: the inducer spins up, the burners never fire, and the furnace either short-cycles or drops into a hard lockout — leaving you with cold air and a flashing diagnostic code.
