The hot surface igniter is the glow element that lights the burners on every heat cycle. When the thermostat calls for heat, the control board energizes the igniter, which glows white-hot and lights the gas the moment the valve opens. Igniters are brittle ceramic parts that wear out from constant thermal cycling — they crack, develop hairline fractures, or burn through entirely. When the igniter fails, the furnace will run its inducer and blower but never light, leaving you with cold air or no air, often after an audible click with no "whoosh" of ignition. A furnace that locks out after three failed ignition attempts is the textbook sign of a dead igniter. Carrier furnaces in this family use a hot surface igniter, available in legacy silicon carbide and modern silicon nitride. Silicon nitride elements are far more durable and resist the thermal-shock cracking that ends the life of silicon carbide igniters. Cold resistance typically sits in the 40–75 ohm range for carbide and lower for nitride; the OEM part is matched to the board's voltage and current limits so it reaches ignition temperature within the trial-for-ignition window. A generic igniter with the wrong resistance won't glow hot enough — or fast enough — to light the gas within the board's timed window, causing repeated lockouts even on a brand-new part. Under-spec elements also draw incorrect current and shorten relay life on the control board. OEM resistance and mounting geometry ensure fast, reliable ignition and correct positioning in the flame path. Install difficulty: 2/5. Tools: 1/4" nut driver and possibly a Phillips screwdriver. Handle the element only by its ceramic base — skin oil weakens the glow surface. Safety: shut off the gas supply and disconnect power before servicing, and never touch the igniter element with bare fingers. This part is compatible with Carrier model PG8UAA024065ACJA. Always verify the part number against your unit's data plate before ordering.
OEM parts are manufactured to the exact factory specifications for your unit. Generic aftermarket alternatives may fit physically but often use lower-rated components that reduce equipment life and void manufacturer warranties. When the cost difference between OEM and generic is $10-30, the OEM part is always the smarter investment on a system worth $5,000-$15,000.
Same-day shipping on orders before 3 PM CST. Standard delivery 2-5 business days, express options available at checkout. 30-day hassle-free returns on uninstalled parts — free return shipping included. 1-year OEM factory warranty coverage.
