This OEM flame sensor with wire harness is the factory-specified replacement for the Carrier PG8MAA048090ABJA gas furnace. The flame sensor is a critical safety component — a metal rod that detects the presence of a burner flame by passing a small microamp current through the flame itself. When the sensor's rod becomes coated with oxidation or mineral buildup, or fails entirely, the furnace control board can no longer confirm ignition and will shut off the gas valve within 5–8 seconds as a safety lockout. The result: the burner lights briefly, then the furnace goes through repeated ignition attempts before locking out entirely.
