The pressure switch is the safety interlock that proves your Carrier PG8MAA036110ADJA furnace has proper draft before the gas valve is allowed to open. It senses negative pressure created by the inducer motor through a small hose; only when adequate vacuum is confirmed does the control board permit ignition. When it fails or its hose clogs, the furnace will run the inducer, fail to make or break the switch, and lock out — you'll see the inducer spin up repeatedly with no ignition, a blower that won't fire, and often a fault code flashing on the control board. This is a single-stage negative-pressure (vacuum) switch with a factory-calibrated trip point measured in inches of water column (typically around -0.40 to -0.65 in. w.c. for this cabinet). It is normally open and closes on draft. Check it with a manometer and meter for continuity once the inducer is running. OEM matters because the trip set-point is matched to this furnace's inducer and venting. A generic switch with a different calibration either nuisance-trips on a healthy system or, worse, closes when draft is marginal — defeating the very safety it exists to provide and risking flue-gas spillage. Install difficulty: 2 of 5. Tools: 1/4" nut driver, manometer, multimeter. SAFETY: kill power at the breaker before servicing, and inspect the sensing hose for cracks, condensate, or blockage — a plugged port mimics a bad switch. This part is compatible with Carrier model PG8MAA036110ADJA. Always verify the part number against your unit's data plate before ordering.
OEM parts are manufactured to the exact factory specifications for your unit. Generic aftermarket alternatives may fit physically but often use lower-rated components that reduce equipment life and void manufacturer warranties. When the cost difference between OEM and generic is $10-30, the OEM part is always the smarter investment on a system worth $5,000-$15,000.
Same-day shipping on orders before 3 PM CST. Standard delivery 2-5 business days, express options available at checkout. 30-day hassle-free returns on uninstalled parts — free return shipping included. 1-year OEM factory warranty coverage.
