The pressure switch is a critical safety device that proves your inducer (draft) motor is actually moving combustion gases before the control board allows the burners to light. It senses the negative pressure created by the inducer through a small silicone hose; only when adequate draft is confirmed does it close and permit ignition. When the switch sticks open due to a blocked hose, condensate in the port, a clogged vent, or a tired diaphragm, the furnace will not fire at all. Homeowners see the inducer spin up and then everything stop, no burner ignition, repeated cycling, and a typical three-flash fault code with no heat. This is a normally-open pressure switch with a factory-calibrated trip point molded into the body, usually in the range of roughly -0.50 to -1.00 inches of water column, matched to this furnace's venting.
