The pressure switch is the safety interlock that confirms your Carrier furnace's inducer (draft) motor is actually moving combustion gases before the board allows ignition. It is a normally-open diaphragm switch that closes on the negative pressure created by the running inducer. If the inducer is weak, a vent or condensate drain is blocked, or the sensing hose is cracked or plugged, the switch never closes (or opens mid-cycle) and the board halts the sequence for safety.
