The pressure switch is the safety device that confirms your induced-draft blower is actually pulling combustion gases through the heat exchanger and out the vent before the furnace is allowed to ignite. It senses negative pressure (vacuum) created by the inducer motor and closes its contacts to tell the control board it is safe to proceed. When this switch fails or sticks open, the most common symptom is a furnace that runs the inducer for several seconds and then shuts down without ever lighting — leaving you with no heat, repeated short-cycling, and often a flashing error code on the control board. A switch stuck closed is more dangerous, because it can allow ignition without proper venting. This is a normally-open, single-port negative-pressure switch calibrated to a specific trip point measured in inches of water column (W.C.), matched exactly to the inducer and venting on the PG8JAA platform.
