Overview

The Tempstar low pressure switch (OEM part 1184655) is a refrigerant-side safety control that protects your compressor by monitoring suction-line pressure. When system pressure drops below the factory cut-out setpoint — caused by a refrigerant leak, restricted metering device, or low ambient charge migration — the switch opens, interrupting the 24V control circuit and shutting down the compressor before damage occurs. As pressure recovers, the auto-reset contacts close and normal operation resumes. A failed pressure switch is a leading cause of intermittent no-cool and short-cycling complaints.
