Overview

The Tempstar low pressure switch (OEM part 1184655) is a refrigerant-side safety control that guards your compressor by monitoring suction-line pressure. When system pressure falls below the factory cut-out setpoint — from a refrigerant leak, a restricted metering device, or low-ambient charge migration — the switch opens the 24V control circuit and shuts the compressor down before it is damaged. Once pressure recovers, the auto-reset contacts close and the system resumes normal operation. A failed low pressure switch is a common cause of intermittent no-cool and compressor short-cycling.
