This OEM hot surface igniter (Tempstar part number 1009524, "IGNITOR/SENSOR HSP SK") is the silicon-nitride ignition component for the Tempstar TNK050F12B1 gas furnace. On every heat call the hot surface igniter (HSI) energizes, glows red-hot, and lights the gas at the burners. The silicon-nitride element is tougher and more thermal-shock resistant than legacy silicon-carbide igniters, giving longer service life and resisting the cracking that causes most ignition failures. When this part fails the furnace will not produce heat: the inducer and gas valve cycle but no flame appears, typically ending in a hard lockout.
