About This Part

The draft inducer pressure switch monitors that the combustion exhaust is properly venting. Before allowing ignition, it verifies the draft inducer motor is creating sufficient negative pressure in the flue. If pressure is inadequate, it keeps the gas valve closed - a critical safety function to prevent carbon monoxide buildup.

Signs This Part Has Failed

!Furnace inducer runs but ignition never happens
!Pressure switch fault code (Code 31/33 on most boards)
!Flue or drain pan blocked with water or debris
!Switch diaphragm cracked or port tubing blocked

Installation Guide

Difficulty: Moderate - test before replacing.

1
Power Down Completely

Turn off power at the disconnect switch and the circuit breaker. Verify with a non-contact voltage tester. For gas systems, turn off the gas supply valve.

2
Access the Component

Remove the access panel (2-4 screws). Locate the component inside the electrical or combustion section of the unit.

3
Photograph All Wiring

Take clear photos of every wire connection before touching anything. This is your reinstallation reference.

4
Remove the Failed Part

Disconnect wire terminals and remove mounting screws or brackets. Note the orientation of the old part for reference.

5
Install the New Part

Mount the new component in the same orientation. Reconnect all wires exactly as shown in your photos. Ensure all terminals are fully seated.

6
Restore Power and Test

Replace access panel, restore power at breaker then disconnect. Test thermostat for full heating or cooling cycle.

Pro Tip: Before replacing the switch, blow through the rubber port tubing to clear any condensate blockage - 40% of pressure switch faults are caused by a blocked tube, not a failed switch.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I test a pressure switch?

Use a multimeter on continuity. A normally-open (N.O.) switch should be open at rest and close when the inducer is running. Blow gently into the port tube - you should hear/feel it click closed.

What does -0.50 W.C. mean?

The switch closes (allows ignition) when the inducer creates at least 0.50 inches of water column negative pressure. Match this rating exactly when ordering a replacement.

Signs This Part Has Failed
! Furnace inducer motor runs but system never ignites
! Fault code 31 33 or similar on furnace LED
! Furnace works fine in warm weather but fails in cold
! Condensate water visible in pressure switch tubing

Safety Warnings
  • Turn off ALL power at the disconnect AND breaker panel before beginning
  • Discharge capacitors before touching — they hold lethal charge even when power is off
  • Do not work on gas systems without proper EPA/gas safety certification
  • Verify power is off with a non-contact voltage tester before touching any wires
01
Power Down the System
Turn off power at the electrical disconnect (usually located on the wall next to the unit) and at the main circuit breaker panel. Verify power is completely off using a non-contact voltage tester before proceeding.
02
Access the Component
Remove the access panel using a screwdriver — typically 2-4 screws on the side or top of the unit. Set panel aside. Locate the component inside the electrical box or control section.
03
Photograph All Wiring
Before disconnecting anything, take clear photos of all wire connections from multiple angles. This is your reference for reinstallation. Label wires with tape if needed.
04
Remove the Failed Component
Disconnect all wire terminals (note position of each). Remove any mounting screws or brackets. Carefully extract the old component from its mounting position.
05
Install the New Part
Mount the new component in the same orientation as the old one. Reconnect all wires exactly as documented in your photos. Ensure all terminals are fully seated and secure.
06
Restore Power and Test
Replace the access panel. Turn on power at the breaker, then the disconnect. Set the thermostat to call for the system to run. Verify normal operation for a full cycle before leaving the system unattended.
Pro Tip
Always take a photo of the wiring before disconnecting anything. Check the capacitor before replacing any motor — a failed capacitor causes the same symptoms as a failed motor and costs a fraction of the price.

Frequently Asked Questions
Match the model number HK06NB007 to your unit's data plate, which is usually located on the inside of the access panel or on the side of the unit. If you need help identifying the correct part, call us at 1-800-NHP-HVAC or use our Part Finder tool.
OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) parts are made by or for the brand that made your unit — identical to what came in the factory. Replacement parts are manufactured by aftermarket companies to the same electrical and mechanical specifications, but at a significantly lower cost. Both carry a 1-year warranty. We recommend OEM for units under warranty; Replacement is the professional technician's choice for cost-effective repairs.
Many homeowners can install this part following our step-by-step guide, but you should be comfortable working with electrical components. When in doubt, hire a certified technician — it is always safer and often worth the labor cost.
