HVAC Gaskets & Seals

Gaskets create airtight seals between HVAC components — between the inducer motor and the heat exchanger, around burner box openings, and at refrigerant line connections. When a gasket fails, you get combustion gas leaks, efficiency loss, or refrigerant leaks depending on the location.

Common HVAC Gaskets

Inducer gaskets seal the draft inducer to the heat exchanger collector box — a failed gasket causes pressure switch errors. Burner box gaskets seal the combustion chamber — leaks here are a carbon monoxide risk. Compressor grommets isolate vibration and prevent refrigerant leaks at the compressor mounts.

When to Replace

Replace gaskets whenever you remove the component they seal — reusing old gaskets often leads to leaks. Also replace if you see soot stains around the gasket edges (indicates combustion leaks) or oil residue at refrigerant connections.

Can I reuse an old gasket?

My furnace has a pressure switch error after I replaced the inducer — what went wrong?
Most likely the inducer gasket wasn't sealed properly or you reused the old gasket. Remove the inducer, install a new gasket, and ensure the mounting bolts are evenly tightened. Even a small air leak at the gasket will prevent the pressure switch from closing.
