HVAC Drain Pans: Primary vs Secondary
Every air handler sits in a primary drain pan that collects condensate. Many installations also have a secondary pan underneath as backup — if the primary drain clogs, the secondary catches overflow and prevents ceiling damage.
When to Replace
Replace if you see cracks, rust holes, or warping. Plastic pans crack from UV and age. Metal pans rust from standing water. Both are cheap insurance against expensive water damage repairs.
Sizing
