Why Saturday Afternoon?
It's not bad luck — it's physics:
- Cumulative heat stress. By Saturday, the AC has been running hard through the workweek. A capacitor degrading all week finally gives out on day 6 of sustained load.
- Peak ambient temperature. Saturday afternoon combines the hottest part of day (2-4 PM) with the hottest part of the week (day 6 of a sustained heat event). Condenser compartment temperatures can exceed 140°F.
- People are home. During the workweek, no one notices the AC struggling. Saturday afternoon is when they're home, doors open more, and the system can't keep up.
- Deferred maintenance. Homeowners notice problems during the week but "wait until the weekend." By Saturday, the intermittent problem becomes a total failure.

How to Beat the Weekend Effect
- Don't wait until Saturday. If your AC sounds different on Wednesday, order the part Wednesday night. A $19 capacitor delivered by Friday prevents a $300 Saturday emergency call.
- Keep a spare parts kit. One capacitor, one contactor, one flame sensor — under $70 total. The most effective insurance policy in your house.
- Schedule maintenance before holiday weekends. A May tune-up catches weak capacitors before they die on July 4th.
- Learn the 15-minute repairs. Capacitor and flame sensor replacement are genuinely easy. Saturday afternoon is a great time to learn — if you already have the part.
