What the Reversing Valve Does
The reversing valve switches between heating and cooling modes by redirecting refrigerant flow. Most systems energize the solenoid for cooling mode.
Common Symptoms
- Heat pump stuck in one mode
- System blows cool air in heat mode
- Hissing sound from valve area
- High head pressure in both modes
Testing Steps
- Check solenoid coil with multimeter (should show resistance)
- Apply 24V directly to solenoid to test shifting
- Feel temperature difference across valve ports
- Listen for click when energizing coil
Replacement Considerations
Reversing valve replacement requires recovering refrigerant and brazing. This is typically a job for licensed HVAC technicians. Shop our selection of OEM reversing valves and solenoid coils.
