Blower Motor Function
The blower motor circulates air through your ductwork for heating and cooling. Most modern furnaces use variable-speed ECM motors for efficiency.
Common Symptoms
- No airflow from vents
- Weak airflow
- Unusual noises (squealing, grinding, humming)
- Motor runs but wheel doesn't spin
- Motor overheating and shutting off
Troubleshooting Steps
- Check thermostat fan setting
- Inspect air filter (dirty filter causes overheating)
- Verify power to motor
- Check capacitor if applicable
- Inspect blower wheel for debris
- Test motor windings with multimeter
