Blower Motor Function

The blower motor circulates air through your ductwork for heating and cooling. Most modern furnaces use variable-speed ECM motors for efficiency.

Common Symptoms

• No airflow from vents
• Weak airflow
• Unusual noises (squealing, grinding, humming)
• Motor runs but wheel doesn't spin
• Motor overheating and shutting off

Troubleshooting Steps

1. Check thermostat fan setting
2. Inspect air filter (dirty filter causes overheating)
3. Verify power to motor
4. Check capacitor if applicable
5. Inspect blower wheel for debris
6. Test motor windings with multimeter
