This genuine Goodman 0130F00010S flame sensor is the flame-rectification rod that proves the presence of a burner flame on the VMES960804CNAA gas furnace. The control board sends a micro-amp signal through the rod; if no flame current is detected, the board shuts the gas valve for safety. A dirty, oxidized, or cracked flame sensor is the single most common cause of a furnace that lights briefly then shuts off (short-cycling) or drops into ignition lockout.
The OEM sensor uses Goodman's exact rod length, alloy, and ceramic insulator so it positions correctly in the flame and produces a reliable flame-current signal. Generic rods may sit too high or low in the flame or use lower-grade alloys, leading to intermittent faults. For consistent ignition, OEM is preferred.
Easy — typically one mounting screw and a single wire connector. Shut off power, remove the old sensor, and install the new one; avoid touching the rod with bare fingers. A 10–15 minute job for most DIYers. Tip: if replacing due to short-cycling, also inspect the burner and manifold.
Disconnect power before servicing and verify model/serial compatibility.
