The Goodman B1172605 Flame Sensor is a genuine OEM flame-rectification rod for the GUS050-2 gas furnace. The flame sensor confirms that the burners have actually lit; if it doesn't detect a flame within a few seconds of ignition, the control board shuts the gas valve for safety. A dirty, corroded, or failed sensor is the single most common cause of a furnace that lights briefly then shuts off (short cycling) or goes into ignition lockout.
This genuine Goodman OEM sensor has the exact rod length, bend, and bracket geometry so the tip sits correctly in the burner flame. Generic sensors may position the rod outside the flame envelope, producing a weak microamp signal and repeat lockouts. The OEM rod delivers a strong, stable signal for reliable ignition.
Rating: Very Easy (1/5). Usually a 15-minute job: shut off power and gas, remove the single mounting screw, unplug the wire, and install the new sensor. No calibration required. Tip: replacing the sensor is often the fix when cleaning the old one only works temporarily.
