The Goodman 0130M00105 Defrost Thermostat is a genuine OEM temperature-sensing switch for the ANZ130421AB heat pump. Clamped to the outdoor coil, it signals the defrost control board when the coil temperature drops low enough to form ice, allowing the unit to run an efficient, on-demand defrost cycle during winter operation.
This OEM sensor is calibrated to the exact open/close temperatures the ANZ130421AB defrost board expects. Generic thermostats often trip at the wrong setpoints, causing nuisance defrosts that waste energy or, worse, failing to defrost and letting the coil ice over. The OEM part guarantees correct staging and full heating capacity.
A bad defrost thermostat shows up as a coil packed in ice, weak heat output, the unit stuck in defrost, or a heat pump that never defrosts at all. Replacing this inexpensive sensor is far cheaper than a compressor damaged by liquid slugging from an iced coil.
Install Difficulty: Easy (2 of 5). Disconnect power, unclip the sensor from the coil, transfer the two spade connectors, and clamp the new thermostat in the same location. A common 15-minute repair for a service tech or confident DIYer.
