The 0130M00105 is the genuine OEM defrost thermostat (defrost sensor) for the Goodman ASZ130301AE heat pump. Clipped to the outdoor coil, this temperature-sensing switch tells the defrost control board when frost has accumulated on the coil so the unit can initiate and terminate a defrost cycle at the correct temperatures. A failed defrost thermostat is a common cause of an iced-over outdoor coil, weak heating, and short-cycling in cold weather.
The OEM sensor is calibrated to Goodman's exact open/close set points, so defrost cycles start and stop at the correct coil temperatures. Generic thermostats often use different trip points, which can leave the coil frosted or trigger unnecessary defrosts that waste energy and reduce heating comfort. For a heat pump, correct defrost timing is worth the genuine part.
Easy (2/5) — Kill power at the disconnect, unclip the old sensor from the coil tube, transfer the wire terminals, and clip the new one to the same spot. About 15 minutes with basic hand tools. No refrigerant work required, but route wiring clear of moving fan parts.
