The Goodman 0130M00105 Defrost Thermostat is a genuine OEM temperature-sensing switch for the Goodman ANZ130181AB heat pump. Clamped to the outdoor coil tubing, it senses coil temperature and signals the defrost control board to initiate and terminate the defrost cycle. When it fails, the outdoor coil ices over in heating mode — killing efficiency, freezing airflow, and eventually tripping the system on high pressure or low capacity.
This genuine Goodman OEM sensor is calibrated to the specific close/open temperature setpoints the ANZ130181AB defrost board expects. Generic bimetal switches often use different trip temperatures, causing too-frequent (energy-wasting) or too-infrequent (coil-icing) defrost cycles. Because defrost timing depends on exact calibration, OEM is the safe choice.
Difficulty: Moderate (DIY-capable). Cut power at the disconnect, remove the access panel, unclip the old thermostat from the coil tube, transfer it to the same location on the new part, and reconnect the two quick-connect leads. No refrigerant work is needed, but correct sensor placement on the tubing is essential for proper defrost operation. Budget 20–30 minutes.
