The Goodman 0161F00046 Condensate Drain Trap is a genuine OEM assembly for the VMSS960403ANAA high-efficiency (96% AFUE) modulating furnace. Condensing furnaces produce acidic condensate at the secondary heat exchanger; this trap routes that liquid to the drain while maintaining a water seal that blocks flue gases from escaping into the cabinet. A cracked, clogged, or algae-fouled trap causes water leaks, pressure-switch faults, and lockout codes — one of the most common no-heat calls on condensing furnaces.
The OEM trap matches the exact port spacing, hose-barb diameters, and internal seal height the furnace's pressure-switch circuit relies on. Generic or universal traps frequently upset the pressure switch reference or leak at mismatched fittings, triggering ignition lockouts. For trouble-free condensate management, use the OEM 0161F00046.
Moderate (2 of 5). Power down, disconnect the inlet and drain hoses (have a towel ready — residual condensate spills), unclip the trap, install the new unit, and reattach hoses with clamps. Prime the trap with water before restart and check for leaks. Roughly 20–30 minutes.
