The Goodman 20171701 is a genuine OEM condensate drain trap built for the GMH950905CXAA 95% AFUE condensing gas furnace and compatible Goodman/Amana models. On high-efficiency furnaces the secondary heat exchanger produces liquid condensate that must be drained while maintaining a water seal that blocks flue gases from escaping into the cabinet. This molded P-trap does both — routing acidic condensate to the drain and preventing pressure-switch faults caused by a broken water seal or a clogged trap.
The OEM 20171701 matches the furnace's exact port layout and trap depth, so the water seal and drain angles are correct out of the box. Generic universal traps exist but often require adapters and careful re-plumbing to seal properly; a mismatched trap is a frequent source of intermittent lockouts. For reliable operation, OEM is the better value.
Moderate (3/5). Disconnect the drain and inducer tubing, remove the old trap, install the replacement, and prime it with water to establish the seal. Confirm no flue-gas leaks and that condensate flows freely. Plan on 20–30 minutes; power off the furnace before servicing.
