The Goodman 20171701 condensate drain trap is the factory drainage component for GKS90703BXAA high-efficiency (90%+ AFUE) gas furnaces. In condensing furnaces, the secondary heat exchanger produces acidic condensate that must drain safely away. This trap maintains a water seal that lets condensate exit while blocking flue gases from escaping into the cabinet. A cracked or clogged trap causes water leaks, pressure-switch faults, and ignition lockouts.
The genuine Goodman trap is molded to match this furnace's exact port spacing and inlet/outlet geometry, so it seals correctly against the pressure switch and drain lines. Universal traps often require adapters that introduce leak points. The OEM part is the reliable, drop-in choice.
Moderate — involves disconnecting drain tubing, clearing residual condensate, and re-priming the trap with water. Confirm the pressure switch reads correctly on restart. A handy owner can do this; many prefer a technician for the seal check.
