The Goodman 20171701 Condensate Drain Trap is a genuine OEM assembly that collects and drains acidic condensate produced by the secondary heat exchanger of the Amana/Goodman AMVC950905CXAD 95% AFUE condensing furnace. The trap maintains a water seal that lets condensate drain while blocking flue gases from escaping the drain line — a function that also keeps the pressure-switch circuit reading correctly. Cracked, clogged, or algae-fouled traps are a leading cause of nuisance lockouts on high-efficiency furnaces.
The OEM trap matches the exact port locations, orientation, and seal geometry of the AMVC95 cabinet, so it connects to the existing hoses without adapters. A Generic universal trap costs less and can be adapted, but mismatched ports often mean extra fittings and leak points. For reliable drainage and pressure-switch accuracy, OEM is recommended.
Moderate (2 of 5). Disconnect condensate hoses, remove the old trap, prime the new trap with water to establish the seal, and reconnect. Watch hose routing and clamp seating. A capable DIYer can handle it in about 30 minutes.
