The Goodman 11177114 Pressure Switch is a genuine OEM -0.50" water column, normally-open draft-proving switch for the Goodman GMV951155DXBA 96% AFUE variable-speed gas furnace and compatible GMV/GCV models. This safety control verifies that the induced-draft blower is pulling adequate venting airflow before the furnace is allowed to ignite — a required combustion-safety interlock.
When the inducer starts and pulls the correct negative pressure, the switch closes and permits ignition. If venting is blocked, the inducer is weak, or a hose is cracked, the switch stays open and the furnace safely refuses to fire. A faulty switch is a leading cause of furnaces that hum but never light.
OEM vs. Generic: The genuine 11177114 is calibrated to the exact -0.50" WC trip point Goodman engineered for this furnace's venting design. A generic switch with the wrong set point can allow ignition under unsafe draft conditions or cause chronic no-heat lockouts. For a combustion-safety device, OEM calibration matters.
Installation difficulty: Easy to moderate — typically two screws and one or two hose/wire connections, about 15–20 minutes. Confirm the hose ports are clear and the tubing is crack-free during replacement. Shut off gas and power before servicing; if the new switch still won't close, have a technician check for a venting restriction.
