The Goodman B1370109 Stack Overtemp Limit Switch is a genuine OEM safety control engineered for the GUN040-2 gas furnace. This normally-closed thermal switch monitors heat-exchanger and stack temperatures and opens the circuit if the furnace exceeds its safe operating range, shutting off the burners to prevent overheating, cracked heat exchangers, and nuisance faults. If your furnace is short-cycling on limit, locking out, or throwing an open-limit code, a failed stack switch is a common culprit.
This is the factory-original Goodman part, calibrated to the exact trip and reset temperatures your furnace's control sequence expects. Generic aftermarket limit switches often use approximate temperature ratings that can trip early (nuisance shutdowns) or late (a real safety risk). For a control this critical, OEM is the safe choice.
Easy–Moderate. A DIY-friendly swap for anyone comfortable working inside a furnace cabinet. Cut power at the breaker, disconnect the two terminals, remove the mounting screws, and install the replacement in the same orientation. Most installs take 15–20 minutes. If you are unsure why the original tripped, have the furnace inspected — repeated overtemp faults can indicate airflow restriction or a heat-exchanger problem.
