The Goodman 20162904 Primary Limit Temperature Control is a genuine OEM high-limit safety switch for the AMVC80805DNBC 80% variable-speed gas furnace. Mounted on the heat-exchanger bulkhead, this primary limit monitors supply-air temperature and opens the circuit to shut off the burners if the plenum overheats — typically from restricted airflow, a dirty filter, or a failed blower. It is a core safety component that prevents heat-exchanger damage and fire hazards.
Symptoms of a failed primary limit include short-cycling on the limit, a furnace that heats then shuts down, or no heat at all. If the control opens prematurely or won't close, replacement with the correct OEM temperature control is required.
The limit's trip temperature and probe length must match your heat exchanger exactly. Genuine OEM controls are calibrated to Goodman's spec; a generic limit with the wrong setpoint or insert length can allow dangerous overheating or cause nuisance trips.
