The Goodman/Amana 20162904 is the primary high-limit temperature control designed for the AMVC80803BNBD variable-speed gas furnace and compatible Goodman and Amana 80% AFUE models. This safety-critical switch continuously monitors heat-exchanger and supply-plenum temperatures, cutting power to the gas valve if the furnace overheats due to restricted airflow, a dirty filter, or a blower failure. A failed or nuisance-tripping limit is one of the most common causes of a furnace that fires briefly and then shuts down on a hard lockout.
This is a genuine OEM Goodman part built to the exact trip point and mounting footprint of your furnace's original control. Generic aftermarket limits may use a different opening temperature or bracket, risking short-cycling or an improper seal against the heat exchanger. For a UL-listed safety device, we recommend the OEM component to preserve your equipment warranty and rated protection.
Rating: Easy (2/5). Replacement typically takes 15–20 minutes with a nut driver. Always shut off gas and electrical power at the furnace before service. If you are unsure why the limit tripped, have a licensed HVAC technician diagnose the underlying airflow issue before replacing the control.
