The Goodman 20162904 Primary Limit Temperature Control is the genuine OEM high-limit switch that monitors supply-air temperature in the heat-exchanger/plenum area of AMH80804BNBC furnaces. This automatic-reset control opens the gas valve and ignition circuit when temperatures climb above its safe setpoint — typically from restricted airflow, a dirty filter, a failing blower, or a closed duct — then closes again once the furnace cools. It is a primary combustion safety device, and a failed or drifting limit is a frequent cause of short-cycling and heat lockouts.
The primary limit is factory-set to your furnace's exact trip and reset temperatures and insertion depth. Genuine OEM ensures the calibration and mounting flange match precisely. Generic substitutes can trip early (short-cycling and no heat) or too late (overheating risk to the heat exchanger). On a safety control, OEM is the right call.
Moderate (2/5). Cut power to the furnace, remove the mounting screws, transfer the wiring, and seat the new control at the same depth and orientation. Straightforward mechanically — but always diagnose and correct the airflow issue that caused the trip, and have a qualified technician verify safe operation.
