The Goodman 20162904 is a genuine OEM primary limit temperature control for the AMEC960402BNAA gas furnace. Mounted in the supply-air path above the heat exchanger, this control continuously monitors plenum temperature and opens the gas/ignition circuit if the furnace overheats — the most common cause being restricted airflow from a dirty filter or blocked ducts. It automatically resets once temperatures return to a safe range, allowing normal operation to resume. This is the factory-specified primary safety limit for the Goodman/Amana AMEC-series furnace.
The OEM 20162904 is calibrated to Goodman's exact trip and reset temperatures for this heat exchanger and cabinet. A generic limit with a mismatched set point can either nuisance-trip during normal heating or fail to cut off the burners when it should. Because this is the primary safety control, the correct factory-matched part is essential — install the genuine Goodman 20162904.
Moderate (2/5). Typically two mounting screws and two wire terminals. Turn off power and gas, label the wiring, and seat the control fully in its bracket so the sensing element reads plenum temperature accurately. If the limit trips repeatedly after replacement, check filters and airflow, then call a licensed HVAC technician.
