The Goodman 20162904 Primary Limit Temperature Control is a genuine OEM safety switch engineered for the AMH80803BNBB gas furnace and compatible Goodman/Amana 80% AFUE models. Mounted on the heat exchanger vestibule panel, the primary limit continuously monitors supply-air temperature and opens the gas valve/ignition circuit if the furnace overheats — typically from a dirty filter, blocked ductwork, or a failed blower. A tripping or failed limit is one of the most common causes of intermittent no-heat and short-cycling complaints.
This is the genuine Goodman OEM part (20162904) with the exact trip and reset set-points calibrated for your furnace's heat exchanger. Generic aftermarket limits often use approximate temperature ratings that can nuisance-trip or, worse, fail to open at the correct threshold — a safety concern. For a temperature-critical safety control we recommend the OEM part.
Moderate — 2 of 5. Requires removing the burner/control panel, disconnecting two spade terminals, and unscrewing the limit bracket. Always shut off gas and 120V power at the disconnect before servicing. If you are not comfortable working near the gas valve and heat exchanger, have a licensed HVAC technician perform the swap.
