The Goodman 20162906 is the OEM M4 primary high-limit switch engineered for the Amana AMES920803BNAA gas furnace. This normally-closed thermal safety control monitors heat-exchanger and supply-plenum temperature and opens the ignition/gas circuit if the furnace overheats — protecting the heat exchanger from cracking and preventing a fire hazard. If your furnace short-cycles on high heat, trips out on limit, or won't fire after an overheat event, a failed or fatigued primary limit switch is a common cause.
This is a genuine OEM Goodman part with the exact trip temperature and mounting footprint the furnace was designed around. Aftermarket universal limits may carry the wrong cut-out setpoint, which can cause nuisance trips or allow the furnace to run hotter than intended. For a safety-critical control we recommend the OEM switch. A tested generic equivalent is offered as a lower-cost alternative for experienced technicians who verify the setpoint.
Easy — DIY-friendly (15–20 min). Shut off gas and 120V power, remove the two mounting screws and the spade wire connectors, then reverse to install. No specialty tools required, though a multimeter is useful to confirm continuity. Always de-energize the unit before servicing and confirm the replacement setpoint matches the original.
