The Goodman 20162904 Primary Limit Temperature Control is a genuine OEM safety switch engineered for the AMVC951155DXBA modulating variable-speed gas furnace and compatible Goodman/Amana models. This normally-closed thermal limit monitors heat-exchanger and plenum temperature, opening the gas valve/blower circuit if the furnace overheats due to restricted airflow, a dirty filter, or blower failure. It is a critical burn- and fire-protection component — never bypass or defeat it.
This is the factory OEM Goodman part, calibrated to the exact trip temperature specified for your furnace. Generic universal limits require you to match the open/close set point yourself, and an incorrect calibration can cause nuisance lockouts or, worse, allow unsafe temperatures. On a safety control we strongly recommend the OEM unit for guaranteed set-point accuracy and warranty compliance.
Typically a 15–20 minute repair for a technician: shut off gas and power, remove the burner-compartment access panel, disconnect the two spade terminals, unscrew the mounting bracket, and swap in the new limit. Always verify furnace operation and cycle the limit after installation. Professional installation is recommended for anyone unfamiliar with gas-furnace safety circuits.
