The genuine Goodman 20162904 Primary Limit Temperature Control is the main high-limit safety device for the ACVM971005CNBA gas furnace. Mounted on the heat-exchanger bulkhead, it continuously monitors supply-air temperature and interrupts the burner circuit if airflow is lost or temperatures climb beyond the safe limit—then automatically resets once temperatures return to normal.
This OEM Goodman control is set to the exact open/close temperatures and mounting position engineered for this furnace. Generic limit controls with different trip points or probe lengths can cause repeated short-cycling or allow unsafe operation. For a primary safety control, OEM is the correct choice.
Moderate (2/5). Cut power to the furnace, label and disconnect the wiring, remove the mounting screws, and install the new control in the identical orientation so the sensing element sits in the airstream. Reconnect and test a full heating cycle. Frequent limit trips point to a dirty filter, blocked coil, or blower fault—have a licensed technician diagnose the root cause.
