The Goodman 10716003 is a genuine OEM natural gas burner orifice (spud) for the GMT135-5 gas furnace. The orifice meters the exact volume of gas delivered to each burner, setting the furnace's BTU input and flame quality. A worn, corroded, or incorrectly sized orifice causes lazy yellow flames, sooting, delayed ignition, or improper firing rate.
Orifice bore diameter is the single most important dimension in gas metering, and it is drilled to a specific number for the furnace's input rating and altitude. The genuine Goodman spud guarantees the correct bore and thread pitch. Generic orifices are often mismarked or drilled loosely, risking over- or under-firing and unsafe combustion. Always match the OEM number — do not substitute by eye.
Difficulty: Moderate (gas work — pro recommended). Shut off the gas supply and power. Remove the manifold or burner assembly, back out the old orifice with a socket, thread in the replacement, and reassemble.
