The Goodman 10123539 Manual Reset Limit Switch is a genuine OEM safety control for the VMSS960804CNAA gas furnace and compatible Goodman/Amana models. This manual-reset thermal switch protects against flame rollout and dangerous overheating in the burner or heat-exchanger area, cutting power to the gas valve when an unsafe temperature is detected.
Because it is a manual reset device, once it trips it must be physically reset by pressing the button — it will not auto-recover. Frequent tripping usually points to a blocked flue, dirty burners, or a cracked heat exchanger, so inspect the system when replacing this switch. A failed or worn switch may trip on normal cycles or fail to reset, leaving the furnace with no heat.
OEM vs. Generic: The genuine Goodman switch is calibrated to the furnace's exact trip temperature and mounting footprint — critical for a safety device. Universal switches with the wrong trip point can nuisance-trip or, worse, fail to protect. Always use the OEM part for combustion-safety controls.
Install difficulty: Moderate (comfortable DIY or technician). Shut off gas and power, disconnect the two terminals, unscrew the switch from the bracket, and reverse for the new one. About 15 minutes with a nut driver.
